Tomorrow is the Superbowl and although I am not a huge fan of professional sports (at all, really) I absolute love the food and the fellowship that often forms around it. Lately, things have been tough at gatherings like these, since I have been both dairy and gluten free. Fortunately, there are a lot of great cooks out there with similar needs, and the list of amazing recipes out there you can use to create wonderful healthy spread that avoids the gluten and diary just keeps growing. Not only are these snacks gluten and dairy free, but they are also made out of wholesome delicious ingredients. So this year toss the dorritos and give these real food options a chance. I promise you wont regret it.
First things first, lets talk about main courses. Don’t worry there are some lightweight veggie dips coming too. Here is a low carb twist to an american classic, Game Day hot dog chili, from Living Low Carb Everyday.
I just about died when I saw this recipe for paleo chicken nuggets from Veggie Converter. Seriously, wholesome chicken nuggets?! Yes please!
My husband loves chicken wings, and no party is a party without chicken wings. Check out these delicious Chilli Spiced Mango Chicken Wings from Gutsy By Nature.
Or how about some delicious Asian Style Meat Balls with Cilantro and Green Onions from Savory Lotus.
Moving on from the meatier selections, it wouldn’t be a Superbowl without dip. My favorite is this Paleo Ranch dressing from Grass Fed Girl. She has made this for me on my birthday. Trust me when I tell you you’ll never want ranch dressing from the store again after this one.
Not a ranch fan? That’s ok. Try this Spicy Roasted Bell Pepper Dip from The Rising Spoon?
Or just some good old Hummus from Living Low Carb. Can’t go wrong.
A staple for us, try this pop corn recipe from my kitchen. If you are dairy free, just skip the cheese, that’s is what I do now-a-days. Don’t worry, the nutritional yeast actually still gives it a rich cheesy flavor!
Leave the brownie mix on the shelf, especially when you have this recipe from Homemade Mommy, which is not only gluten and dairy free, but even forgoes almond and coconut flour. Just pure, sweet, chocolaty, fatty goodness.
I confess, sometimes I do splurge and buy chips. Who doesn’t love chips!? But I don;t want to feed my friends and family vegetable oil, even when we are letting loose. Fortunately, I recently discovered my new favorite brand of chips. The ingredient list reads: “organic non-GMO potatoes, sea salt, avocado oil”.
